Drug-ভেষজ

The word “drug" is derived from French word “drogue ” meaning a dry herb.

According to WHO the word drug is defined as any substance that ,when taken into the living organism, may modify one or more of its functions.

যে সকল পদার্থ সুস্থ শরীরে প্রয়োগ করলে শরীর অসুস্থ হয় এবং অসুস্থ শরীরে  সদৃশ লক্ষণ মতে প্রয়োগ করলে শরীর সুস্থ হয়, তাকে ভেষজ বলা হয়। অর্থাৎ যে সকল পদার্থের রোগ উৎপাদিকা ও রোগনাশিনী উভয়বিধ শক্তিই বর্তমান থাকে উহাদিগকে ভেষজ বলে। কাজেই ভেষজ হল ঔষধী গুণসম্পন্ন বস্তু যা থেকে ঔষধ প্রস্তুত করা যায়

Impurities of drugs

Impurities in drugs may arise from various causes, the following are the common one:

1.Imperfect selection : This is due to the ignorance of collectors of crude vegetable drugs ,who are imperfectly acquainted with their botanical characters and therefore fall to distinguish them from allied species. Hence the substitution of an inferior or allied article for the genuine one.

2.Imperfect preservation: this is one of the cause of deterioration of many drugs. Several drugs are materially affected by light and air others by the lapse of time.

3.Imperfect preparation: Impurities are of two kinds

a. Those which exist in the crude drug

b. Those which arise as by products during the process of preparation

They can be avoided only by scrupulous care on the part of the manufacturing Pharmacist,

4.Adultaration: is the intentional and fraudulent admixture of forgein substances with drug. All hugely priced drugs are liable to adulteration.

• উদ্ভিদজঃ একোনাইট, বেলেডোনা, সিঙ্কোনা।
• প্রানীজঃ এপিসমেল, ক্যান্থারিস, ল্যাকেসিস।
• খনিজঃ নেট্রাম মিউর, ক্যালিকার্ব, ফেরাম ফস, ফসফরাস, সালফার।
• গ্রন্থিজঃ ল্যাক-ক্যানাইনাম, থাইরয়ডিন, ইনসুলিন।
• শক্তিজঃ এক্স-রে, রেডিয়াম।

ভেষজ পরীক্ষণ কাহাকে বলে ?

প্রাকৃতিক নিয়মে আরোগ্যদানকারী ঔষধের উৎস বা ভেষজের রোগোৎপাদিকা শক্তি জানার উদ্দেশ্যে বয়োপ্রাপ্ত পূর্ণাঙ্গ সুস্থ মানবদেহে তা বিধিসম্মত পরীক্ষা-নিরীক্ষা করাকে ভেষজ পরীক্ষণ বলে।
